GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said Thursday that "the children really poor" have poor working habits and no knowledge of how to make income "unless it's illegal."
Doubling down on the argument that children in poor environments should be working as janitors in schools, Gingrich argued that the best way to teach kids in poor neighborhoods a good working habits is to put them to work as quickly as possible.
"Start with the facts of two of the following," Gingrich said Thursday at a campaign stop in Iowa.
"They have a habit of not staying all day. They have a habit of not ' I did this and You gave me cash ' unless it's illegal. "
